Ryukyu Glass Village (Ryukyu Garasu-mura)

Located in southern Okinawa near Itoman, this expansive interactive complex celebrates Ryukyu glass—a craft born from melting discarded glass bottles into vibrant, bubble-infused tableware. Visitors can watch master artisans work beside 1,300°C kilns, try hands-on glassblowing, browse thousands of colorful pieces in the gallery, and explore Okinawa Rainbow Street, a lifestyle hub featuring regional food and local goods.

Where does it come from?

Live glassblowing observation in the central studio from a designated viewing area. Hands-on workshops at WORKSHOP ThinkThink (glassblowing, gel candles, glass engraving, and accessory making). -The mado series gallery display featuring eco-glass crafted from recycled automotive windows. -Photogenic architectural spots including a stained-glass ceiling and tropical glass art gardens. -Fukuchi Shoten food hall and outlet store offering discounted glass art. -pen year-round daily; 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Factory operations & workshop registrations until 5:00 PM).

Ryukyu Glass Village (Ryukyu Garasu-mura)

Established in 1985, Ryukyu Glass Village is the prefecture’s largest glass workshop. It is home to master colorists and government-recognized Contemporary Master Craftsmen dedicated to preserving and evolving post-war Ryukyu glassblowing techniques.
