Nakijin Cherry Blossom Festival (今帰仁グスク桜まつり)
Experience the early arrival of spring in Okinawa at the Nakijin Cherry Blossom Festival, hosted at the historic, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Nakijin Castle Ruins. Unlike the light pink Somei Yoshino blossoms common on mainland Japan, Okinawa is famous for its vibrant dark pink Kanhizakura (Taiwan cherry) blooms. During the daytime, visitors can walk among ancient stone walls while taking in panoramic views of the East China Sea framed by cherry blossoms. As day turns to night, the festival transitions into a night illumination event-lanterns and light displays line the historic pathways, casting light across the fortress walls and blooming trees. Throughout the festival period, the grounds host traditional Okinawan Ryukyu cultural performances, stage arts, and local food stalls.
