Naha Hari Food Stalls & Dragon Boat Festival 2027 — 那覇ハーリー

1-16 Minatomachi, Naha, Okinawa 900-0001, Japan
May 3, 2027 · 10:00 JST

The Naha Hari is one of the most important maritime traditions in Okinawa. The tradition of Hari dragon-boat racing was introduced from China approximately 600 years ago and became part of Okinawan cultural life during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. The races traditionally express prayers for safe voyages, prosperity and good fishing. Today, Naha Hari has evolved into an enormous Golden Week public festival attracting both Okinawan residents and visitors from around Japan and overseas. The centerpiece is the spectacular racing of brightly decorated 14.5-meter-long dragon boats, but the experience extends well beyond the water. Around the harbor, visitors encounter entertainment, cultural activities, food vendors and festival stalls, creating a lively Okinawan summer-like atmosphere even before the racing reaches its climax. 🍢 Naha Hari Food Stalls For Xandre's event platform, the food-stall component deserves its own emphasis. Temporary festival vendors create a broad Japanese matsuri food environment around the racing and entertainment program. Visitors can expect opportunities to discover popular festival-style foods and Okinawan specialties such as: Okinawa soba Yakisoba Yakitori Takoyaki Grilled seafood Pork and Okinawan meat dishes Okinawan-style snacks Fried festival foods Shaved ice Tropical drinks Sweets and desserts Beer and other beverages Vendor menus and participating stalls vary by year, so individual food offerings should be confirmed when the 2027 event program is released. 🐉 The Main Attraction — Dragon Boat Racing The festival's centerpiece is the competition between enormous traditional Haryusen dragon boats. These vessels can reach approximately 14.5 meters in length and accommodate large crews including rowers, gong players, helmsmen and flag bearers. The synchronized movement of the crews, rhythmic beating of the gongs and brightly decorated dragon vessels make the races one of Okinawa's most dramatic sporting spectacles. 🏆 Three Days of Different Experiences Day 1 — Community & School Racing The opening day traditionally features competitions involving Naha junior-high-school teams along with other divisions such as PTA and workplace/community teams. Day 2 — Visitor Experience The second day traditionally provides opportunities for members of the public and tourists to experience riding a Hari boat, alongside additional harbor activities. Day 3 — Championship & Traditional Ceremony The final day features major adult competitions and culminates in the traditional: 御願バーリー — Ugan Bari 本バーリー — Hon Bari These ceremonial races form the spiritual and competitive climax of Naha Hari. Naha Hari 2027 — Dragon Boats, Okinawan Food & Maritime Culture Experience the Spirit of Okinawa at Sea and on Shore. Every May, Naha's waterfront becomes a spectacular celebration of Okinawan heritage. Dragon boats race across the harbor. Gongs echo across the water. Festival stalls fill the waterfront with food and aromas. Families gather. Visitors experience traditional boat culture. And Okinawa's maritime history comes alive. For Xandre, Naha Hari Food Stalls & Dragon Boat Festival 2027 is more than another food event. It is an authentic gateway into Okinawan culture—where the food, people, history and sea come together. 2027 Planning Note: May 3–5, 2027 is the expected recurring schedule and is already listed by an event calendar, but the official 2027 Naha Hari program, food vendors, exact daily schedule and any pricing/participation details should be confirmed once released by the organizers.
