About this item

Description

Bridging centuries of Okinawan ceramic traditions with modern studio art, the Heritage & Artisanal Japanese Crafts Collection at Xandre Store showcases authentic, handcrafted works from renowned Okinawan ceramic artists. Sourced directly from the artist's kiln, every creation embodies the timeless principles of Japanese craftsmanship, functionality, and refined artistic expression.

Handcrafted in Uruma City, Okinawa, by acclaimed contemporary ceramic artist Shinji Sato (佐陶 慎児), this elegant miniature ceramic pitcher beautifully showcases his internationally recognized Uruma Blue glaze. Inspired by Okinawa's crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, the vessel combines sculptural beauty with everyday functionality through its organically rounded form, delicately pinched pouring spout, and luminous ocean-inspired finish.

Whether used as a milk pitcher, creamer, sake server, petite flower vase, or decorative art object, this versatile piece captures the quiet sophistication of contemporary Okinawan studio ceramics.

Signature "Uruma Blue" Glaze

Finished in Sato's iconic layered Uruma Blue glaze, the exterior transitions through brilliant turquoise, cobalt, and deep ocean blue tones. The softly crystallized seafoam rim evokes the movement of waves meeting Okinawa's shoreline.

Hand-Formed Pouring Spout

Expertly shaped by hand, the gracefully pinched pouring lip provides smooth, controlled pouring while enhancing the vessel's organic silhouette and sculptural appeal.

Warm Natural Stoneware Interior

The interior remains intentionally unglazed, revealing the rich warmth of high-fired Okinawan stoneware clay. This striking contrast between raw earth and brilliant blue glaze reflects the natural harmony of Okinawa's landscapes.

Functional Contemporary Studio Art

Perfectly sized for cream, milk, sauces, sake, or as a minimalist single-stem bud vase, this versatile vessel seamlessly blends practical daily use with collectible artisan craftsmanship.

Curator's Note: Every piece created by Shinji Sato is individually handcrafted. Variations in glaze movement, crystalline textures, flame markings, and hand-shaped contours are celebrated characteristics of authentic studio pottery, ensuring that every vessel is a true one-of-a-kind work of art.

About the Artist

Shinji Sato (佐陶 慎児) is the founder and master ceramic artist behind Uruma Pottery (うるま陶器) in Uruma City, Okinawa. His work blends traditional Okinawan ceramic techniques with contemporary sculptural design, creating functional works of art that are highly regarded by collectors both in Japan and internationally. Each piece is handcrafted in small batches using locally inspired materials and reflects the harmony between nature, craftsmanship, and everyday living.
