Created by Ikutouen Studio, this plate continues more than 300 years of Okinawan ceramic tradition. Led by sixth-generation potter Tadashi Takaesu, a certified traditional craftsman, the studio is dedicated to preserving the techniques of Tsuboya-yaki while creating functional pottery for modern living.
Design
Made from native Okinawan clay, the plate features the traditional Shironuki (white-resist) technique, creating crisp white patterns against warm earth-toned clay. The hand-carved Karakusa (arabesque vine) motif symbolizes prosperity, longevity, and continual growth in Japanese decorative arts.
Each plate is individually thrown, carved, and glazed by hand. Natural variations in shape, glaze, and pattern are part of its authenticity and make every piece unique.
