About this item

Description

Discover how Xandre LLC connects traditional Ryukyu craftsmanship with global collectors of contemporary Japanese art and luxury lifestyle objects. By sourcing from independent Okinawan studios, our curated catalog presents authentic island glassblowing through works that embody the sea, forests, atmosphere, and quiet living culture of Okinawa.

Rooted in the stillness of Okinawa's forests and the rhythm of its surrounding seas, the Okinawan Ryukyu Glass Collection celebrates the island's distinctive glassmaking heritage through contemporary studio craftsmanship. Produced in small artisanal batches, each vessel transforms molten glass into an individual work shaped by movement, texture, light, and the moment of creation. Natural variations give every piece its own character while preserving the tactile qualities of handmade Okinawan glass.

Handcrafted in Okinawa by Glass Art Imagokoro (グラスアート いまごころ), this distinctive studio tumbler evokes the movement of Okinawa's coastline. A frothy white base recalls sea foam washing across the shore, while sweeping slate-blue and milky-white currents spiral around the upper body toward the rim. The contrast between the textured lower section and flowing wave patterns creates a dynamic composition that changes subtly with the surrounding light.

Artistic Characteristics

Ocean Wave & Sea Foam Textures

The lower portion features a distinctive crackled, bubble-like texture reminiscent of sea foam, transitioning into fluid wave patterns that encircle the upper body. Artisan Philosophy: Glass Art Imagokoro approaches each creation as an encounter between the artist, molten glass, and the present moment. The studio's philosophy is expressed through the idea of facing the molten glass with heart and intention, transforming immediate feelings into lasting glass art:

「森の静寂の中 ひとり 溶けたガラスと 心と向き合いながら 今感じた想いをガラスに込める」

Individually Crafted

Each vessel is mouth-blown and shaped without rigid mass-production molds. Differences in wave movement, bubble distribution, contours, and glass flow are inherent to the handmade process. Studio Documentation: The piece includes an official Glass Art Imagokoro artist insert card providing studio and care information.

Curator's Note: Every Glass Art Imagokoro piece possesses its own visual character. Small air bubbles (kibou), subtle flow lines (suji), variations in glass thickness, and minor dimensional differences are natural characteristics of hand-blown glass. These details reflect the individual creation process rather than manufacturing imperfections.
