About this item

Description

Discover how Xandre LLC connects traditional Ryukyu craftsmanship with global collectors of contemporary Japanese art and luxury lifestyle objects. By sourcing directly from independent Okinawan studios, our curated catalog presents authentic island glassblowing through works inspired by Okinawa's historic architecture, natural landscapes, and living cultural heritage.

Crafted by Glass Art Ai (グラスアート藍) in Okinawa, this individually mouth-blown tumbler draws inspiration from the distinctive stone walls and warm sunset atmosphere of Zakimi Castle (座喜味城).

A component of the Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Zakimi Castle is renowned for its graceful curved stone walls and historic Ryukyuan architecture. The design translates these architectural textures and surrounding colors into contemporary glass art. The tumbler features an intricate network of white crackle-like lines layered over a warm madder-red and sunset-brown base, evoking the appearance of weathered stone illuminated by the evening light.

Artistic Characteristics

  1. Zakimi Castle Wall Crackle Texture: A web-like network of white cracked-line detailing recalls the irregular texture and layered appearance of historic Ryukyuan stone masonry.
  2. “Akane” Sunset Palette: Warm madder-red, amber, and earthy brown tones evoke the rich colors of sunset surrounding Zakimi Castle.
  3. Tactile Sculpted Form: Organic contours provide a comfortable grip while reinforcing the architectural and natural character of the design.
  4. Individual Studio Craftsmanship: Each tumbler is mouth-blown and shaped individually at Glass Art Ai, resulting in natural differences in crackle pattern, line density, color depth, and glass flow.
  5. Studio Documentation: Accompanied by Glass Art Ai studio literature describing the design's architectural and cultural inspiration.

Curator's Note

Each Glass Art Ai tumbler possesses its own visual character. Variations in crackle-web spacing, line formation, surface contour, pigment concentration, glass flow, and color distribution naturally occur during the handcrafting process.

These differences are inherent characteristics of handmade Okinawan glass and should not be considered manufacturing defects.
