Xandre Store Exclusive - Traditional Okinawan mingei tableware featuring hand-applied ten-uchi spotting, a traditional janome stacking ring, and the natural character of Kita-gama wood-fired climbing-kiln ceramics.
Description
Hand-thrown by Kyoji Matsuda (松田 共司) of Kita-gama (北窯) in Yomitan Village, this generous 6-sun makai combines practical Okinawan dining culture with the warm, robust character of traditional yachimun.
The deep, gently flared bowl is finished with an off-white keshō-do slip and decorated with rhythmic cobalt blue (gosu) and amber-brown (ame-yu) ten-uchi spotting beneath a finely varied glaze surface. Inside, a distinctive exposed-clay ** janome ("snake's eye") ring** remains unglazed, reflecting a traditional stacking feature associated with kiln firing.
At approximately 18–19 cm in diameter, its generous proportions make it ideal for Okinawan soba, udon, ramen, rice dishes, stews, or shared side dishes.
