Xandre Store Exclusive - Traditional Okinawan mingei tableware featuring hand-applied ten-uchi spotting and the natural character of Kita-gama wood-fired climbing-kiln ceramics.
Description
Hand-thrown by Kyoji Matsuda (松田 共司) of Kita-gama (北窯) in Yomitan Village, this traditional makai combines everyday functionality with the warm, tactile character of Okinawan yachimun.
The bowl follows the classic Ryukyu makai silhouette, with a defined foot ring (kōdai), gently rising walls, and a softly flared rim. Its off-white keshō-do slip provides a warm ground for rhythmic cobalt blue (gosu) and amber-brown (ame-yu) ten-uchi spotting, complemented by a subtle iron-amber rim accent. Fine kannyū micro-crazing, glaze movement, and natural variation reflect its handmade construction and wood-fired character.
Sized for approximately 12.5–13.5 cm in diameter, it is well suited to rice, soups, side dishes, snacks, or tea, making it an especially versatile piece of Okinawan tableware.
