About this item

Description

Experience the evolving artistry of the Ryukyu Islands with this Contemporary Okinawan Studio Glass & Ceramic Kiln Shard Collection. Created by Okinawan artisan Sakae Matsumoto, this unique pairing celebrates sustainability, material transformation, and the beauty born from fire and craftsmanship.

Unique Piece Notice: This item is an authenticated, one-of-a-kind work of art individually handcrafted in Japan. Once sold, this exact piece cannot be duplicated.

Heritage

Crafted at Saisei Glass Kobo TetoTeto in Uruma City, this collection reflects Matsumoto's eco-conscious approach to contemporary Okinawan craft. Using recycled materials and traditional techniques, each piece embodies the island's connection to nature, innovation, and artistic renewal.

Design

The collection pairs two complementary works of art. The hand-blown Aburatsubo vessel reimagines a traditional Okinawan oil flask in recycled olive-green glass with delicate air bubbles and a softly textured square base. Accompanying it is a one-of-a-kind ceramic kiln shard, where molten emerald glaze naturally fused to stoneware during firing, creating an organic sculptural form that can never be replicated.
