About this item

Description

Handcrafted in Okinawa, Japan, this Ryukyu Glass Art Tumbler celebrates the beauty of Ryukyu glass, a distinctive craft that emerged after World War II when local artisans transformed reclaimed glass into one of Okinawa's most celebrated artistic traditions. Unique Piece Notice: This item is an authenticated, one-of-a-kind work of art individually handcrafted in Japan. Once sold, this exact piece cannot be duplicated.

Heritage

Produced at Ryukyu Glass Village, the tumbler reflects generations of Okinawan glassmaking. The collection honors the work of Uehara Tokuzo, a recipient of Japan's prestigious Contemporary Master Craftsman (Gendai no Meiko) designation, recognized for his outstanding contribution to the development of authentic Ryukyu glass.

Design

An opaque milk-white body is accented with flowing ribbons of blue, green, yellow, and orange, creating a vibrant composition inspired by Okinawa's sea and subtropical landscape. Fine silver foil is layered throughout the surface, producing a subtle shimmering effect that changes beautifully with the light. Each tumbler is individually hand-blown, retaining the traditional pontil mark on the base and the official Ryukyu Glass Village certification. Natural variations in color, texture, and form make every piece unique.
